Golden section - Varmárskóli

We know from our experience that mathematics is a boring and difficult subject for most of the pupils. We think, we can show the other side of the maths. We have chosen a part of the geometry-golden section-, and encouraged the pupils to find the relationship between this topic and the real world. Nowadays our pupils are very enthusiastic and they have discovered a lot of interesting relationships, such that architecture, painting, natural world, music, belief and superstition. We would like to show and share our issues, and we hope some other school can join us.

House, city, field, legend: Our European Home - Varmárskóli - 2. VERÐLAUN í flokki grunnskóla í LANDSKEPPNI eTWINNING 2006-07 02.02.2007

Our pupils will create two presentations. with the first one -about 5 slides- they introduct each other. In the main presentation they'll show the evolution of houses, cities, soil cultivation or fishing. The second option for this presentation is to show a legend or saga from their homeland.

Simple Machines - Seljaskóli 28.03.2006

Studens make simple machines of worthless fabric at home with some help from parents. There will be three students in every team. They have to use at least 4 smiple machines in each project. After making the projects students bring them to school and have to explain how the machines really works. Each school choose the three best machines to show and explain to the other school. In the explanation between schools we will use webcameras. Students share their works.

Statistic Teenager - a Portrait of a Young European - Varmárskóli 05.03.2006

Students will make a portrait of a statistic teenager. They will look at each others and try to understand the similarities and the differences between them. In this project we draw students’ attention to the important role of Mathematics in the process of learning about the world and lots of its spheres in which teenagers exist. Mathematics enables students to “exercise their minds” and it is helpful to visualize many life issues and problems making them available for young people. In this project students will use the newest computer and telecommunicative technologies making contact with peers from other country (countries). Thanks to the emotional engagement pupils are given a strong motivation to learn English and they improve their language competences.
